St. Patrick’s Day! Are you ready to welcome the mayhem of green-ness? I attended the parade on Saturday down Peachtree Street. I was not ready! I was not expecting the oddities that I saw on the pavement. For example, this man (to the left) both caused me to gaffew in surprise and laugh in amusement. He is obnoxiously dressed in a St. Patrick’s turban and leopard clogs. Did I mention the shake-weight that my 2-D photo was not able to capture the shaking?
Whose Dad does this belong to you?
There wer also a mini car show, starring this small smart car:
Imagine a smart car and divide that in half – and you might just get close to this car’s actual size.
In addition to the strange and unique was the normal. Like most parades, the star remains the marching band. I love marching band music – having grown up with a sister who played in our high school music band.
There were also high school cheerleaders to go with the marching band, but I liked this little girl’s energy better! She shook her pom poms like it was going out of style! You’ve got to learn children for their exuberance.
The parade also had several dog breeds trot by in their green blair!
It couldn’t have been better weather for an afternoon spent on the sidewalk of downtown Atlanta!
I was surprised to walk out the MARTA station and into a Star Wars Convention. Looking back at
the pictures, I see the kilts on the storm troopers, which might explain their appearance in the St. Patrick’s Parade. However, much of this parade was incoherent – at least in my opinion.
The great weather, free mardi gras beads and candy were probably better highlights. Who doesn’t love a little tan, jewelry and sweets? But let’s be honest, St. Patrick’s Day is
another excuse to drink. I’m happy to continue this tradition (in the namesake of history, of course).
Don’t forget to wear green today!
