to honor victims of Sikh temple shooting massacre in Wisconsin

There seems to be an increase in gun violence in America recently.  My prayers go out to the victims and their families as they face a challenging recovery personally and as a community.

On the other hand, who thinks lawmakers will use this recent surge in gun crimes as a means to ram through Congress gun-control legislation?  As a political junkie, I’ll be watching.

USDA predicts big drop in corn yield

With most of the country in drought, crops across the board will be affected by lower yields and higher costs.  However, the crop that is most widely used and will have far-reaching effects with its drop in harvest is corn.  Americans use this vegetable in every consumer product known to man.  In many cases, corn is used as a filler product.  Why?  If all products cut out fillers like corn, would it affect the product?  Yes.  My guess (as a not certified scientist), is that products would be more effective and better. While food yields decreases will negatively impact every strata of Americans, it might seriously force companies to cut out filler products from their assembly lines.

USA USA USA

To be completely American and patriotic – can I get an ‘Amen’ for the USA Olympic Teams! We rock this year!  Not only are we ahead in the medal count, but also ahead in the gold medal count.  Obviously, we have lots of advantages compared to other nations around the world, but I can’t help but wear a cheesy grin and smile when I think about the U.S. Olympics gold record.  Congratulations to the U.S. women’s soccer team for winning the gold against Japan!

Bizarre News: Runway cleared for ‘take-off’ of clothes

This may not interest anyone else, but I always  like to read news of places I’ve been visited or lived in.  Unfortunately, this story does not show the beautiful country of Vietnam in a flattering light. The inaugural VietJetAir (VJA) flight from Ho Chi Minh City to the coastal holiday destination of Nha Trang will always be memorable to its passengers.  Someone at VJA had the brilliant idea to host a bikini dance performance by local beauty pageant winners mid-flight to better their customer experience.  I’m going to guess that it was a man’s idea.  The airline has been fined.

In Israel, new modesty glasses for Orthodox Jewish men blur women out of their line of sight

What?  God  made men and women as equals.  Religions that seek to undermine the opposite sex is both close-minded and dangerous to world peace and equality.

  1. I appreciate the updates and thoughts! On the issue of corn has being an alternative for many other uses other than food, the hopes of global recovery from our gases and chemicals seem scant as well. BTW- I haven’t seen corn here! Hmmmm.
