400 – Richest American
I work in communications. I realize I will never be rich, but I do love peeking into the lives of the rich and famous. In fact, six Georgians made it on the prestigious list. The No. 1 spot belongs to a familiar face – Bill Gates. I’m not surprised.
1. Bill Gates
2. Warren Buffet
3. Larry Ellison (Who is this guy?)
4. Charles Koch ( A little sibling rivalry?)
5. David Koch
1. Anne Cox Chambers
2. James Kennedy
3. S. Truett Cathy
4. Bernie Marcus
5. Ted Turner
6. Arthur Blank
Who said all peer pressure is bad? A study reveals that a Facebook status has the power to boost voter turnout. When Facebook users saw their friends voting, they followed suit. The question remains, will this help Romney? Historically, the Republican candidate has always fallen short in exploring new media outlets to reach voters. After his infamous “47 percent” remark, will undecided voters still sway his way? While his remark was off the cuff and “inelegant” – it is a fact. Those who pay taxes are more likely to be charmed by promises of lowered taxes. If you don’t pay taxes, why would you care? The tax argument does not impact you. Traditionally, people vote based on what will impact them.
An aside, this story too has a Georgia tie. President Jimmy Carter’s grandson, James Carter IV, worked with an anonymous twitter-person to release the video of Romney’s “47 percent” remarks. He has been looking for work and has now received several job offers because of his sleuthing skills.
Innocence of Muslim Riots
After the tragic death of the U.S. ambassador and three other personnel in Benghazi, Lybia, last week, other U.S. embassies are shuttering their offices because of potential protests, in. Places like Islamabad, Pakistan. My thoughts and prayers go to Christopher Stevens and the other victims’ families.
A 14-minute trailer of the movie has been out since July, but it has only breached the global conscience this month. Film is a very powerful way to express opinions. In a world where globalization and mixing of cultures is inevitable, how much freedom of speech should people have to express their views? Did the filmmakers go to far? The protestors definitely did.
At the end of the day, it is vital to respect others, especially if their views oppose yours.
Another year means another Phone upgrade. Apple has lead the marketplace because of their uncanny ability to understand that the users desire simplicity and functionality. After reading Steve Jobs, I have a appreciation for the developmental process of apple devices.
I just upgraded my IPhone and IPad to the new IOS 6, but I don’t think I’ll be standing in line today to buy the new IPhone. The complaints have already started rolling in, beginning with the new mapping system, which is easier to read and navigate, but has many location errors (I.e. locating Golden Gate Bridge four miles away from true location). I love technology, but the race to Bethesda best and the first always comes with pitfalls. I know at least one friend who has preordered his IPhone 5. Will you be next in line? If so, why? My generation has such and insatiable appetite for technology. It’s become a status symbol to have the newest apple device – smart marketing!
