Black Tie Wedding

2019 Fashion, Autumn, Fashion, Winter

This full Chicwish skirt is so elegant and versatile since you can pair it with a different top to totally change up the look. I was looking for formal options to wear to a black-tie wedding, and I got this skirt as one of my options. While I did not end up wearing it, I’m excited to have it in my closet to restyle for other events.

I kept it classic with a simple boat neck top (last worn here) and classic clutch and block heels.

When you are petite, it’s all about proportions – this high-waisted full skirt gave me the impression that I have long legs. Trust me – that is an allusion.

I also plan to pair this skirt with a one-shoulder or a sleeveless bustier-style top for a different look!

Splash of Green

2019 Fashion, Fashion, Favorite Features, Winter

I start to preemptively wear green as it gets close to St. Patrick’s Day. Is that just me? These Forever 21 tassel earrings are great to accessorize any outfit and avoid getting pinch on the day.

This Mango sweater has been a favorite of mine, it’s perfect for a casual day to run errands in. It fits loose, so good if you are planning to eat a large meal. You guessed it… I wore this to brunch!

Peacock Print Midi Pleated Skirt from Modcloth & the Black Top You Need

2019 Fashion, Fashion, Winter

During Modcloth’s last sale, I might have gone overboard… Despite all my fashion resolutions to cut back. One of those purchases is the is adorable peacock print midi skirt with box pleats and pockets from Modcloth, but it’s sold out. It’s a great transition skirt from the office to an event. The fun peacock print makes it unique and standout.

I also highly recommend investing in good basic white and black tops. This ASOS boat-neck black shirt has been a staple of my closet and is available for only $20. It’s very versatile and pairs with basically everything in my wardrobe. This is the top every woman needs it, I could wear it every day.

I wore this black top previously on the blog paired with a black pencil skirt. I’ll pair it with a casual look soon so you can see how I’ve restyled it.

Burgundy Sweater Dress, OTK Boots & 2019 Fashion Resolutions

2019 Fashion, Fashion, Winter

My goal this year is to save money, which is basically impossible when you are fashion blogger.

Wrong – you can do it!

  1. You have to cut back. Best way to save is to spend less.
  2. Thrift store or consignment shopping is a great way to find good pieces that are new to your closet without breaking your budget.
  3. I am also a frequent shopper of TJ Maxx, Marshalls and online where I can shop around for the best prices.
  4. Strategize what things you are looking for and look for them when sale season hits. Don’t buy things just because you think you need them in the moment.

For example, this sweater dress is from Gap, but I bought it for $3 at the thrift store! These Vince Camuto OTK boots (I have a lot of Vince Camuto boots because they are the best!) and Jessica Simpson black blouse I’ve layered underneath the dress were from TJ Maxx!

Like many of you, I’m self-made. I work hard and try and make financial decisions, which includes budgeting how much clothing I purchase.

Here are a few of my fashion resolutions for this year – spend less on quantity, spend more on quality, purchase things only on sale, reduce my closet of clothing that doesn’t “spark joy,” and add more unique, statement pieces to my wardrobe.

To help you spend less and buy more quality, I want to flag the Shopbop sale starting today and going to March 3!

Patchwork Modcloth Maxi Dress

2019 Fashion, Fashion, Winter

I wore this Modcloth dress three times in the past couple of weeks, and I’m not mad about it. I love that it looks effortlessly elegant.

I love dresses because they are the entire outfit. If you are short, I’d recommend belting long dresses because it gives you the appearance of a waist. The higher your belt, the longer the illusion of your legs.

I also love the patchwork pattern, which makes it very versatile. I’m in love with Modcloth, last dress worn here. I really love the wide-ranging sizes they offer.

Spotting the Trends

2019 Fashion, Fashion, Winter

Is your Instagram feed inundated with New York Fashion Week trends?

Here’s a quick snapshot of the hottest trends from the week, either catwalk or sidewalk.

  • Ruffles
  • Colored Furs
  • Colors – especially green, lavender and sunset hues
  • White Boots
  • Accessories – including hair barrettes

As much as I enjoy following the latest trends, I very rarely invest in them. Everyone’s style is unique and should work for your life and speak to your individual taste – not what is currently trending. For this reason, my style is my style, despite the trends.

However, I like incorporating them into my style in small ways. At times, when a new trend comes on stage, I may discover a whole new side of my style that becomes an established part of my look and brand moving forward.

For example, I love white, but I never considered white boots as a part of my closet. They’ve been trending for the past few seasons, and I am totally won over by them! I’ve been looking for a few different styles to procure, but these western cowboy boots will definitely be on repeat this Spring!

Similarly, romantic ruffles were spotted everywhere at NYFW, and I’ve been a lover of them for a while (last ruffles worn).

This TopShop Pinafore Spotted Dress is so fun and playful with different size spots and ruffles!

Are you in love with this earring! My very talented friend Anychi partnered with Mindy Lam Jewelry to design a whole line of statement earrings that you much check out! And yes – statement jewelry is in season and on trend!

What hot trends are you looking forward to incorporating into your closet for this Spring?

Head to my Instagram and follow me @katestylepetite and Veronica Clothing at @veronicamclothing!

I’m doing a giveaway for three followers to win a Veronica Clothing leopard skort-romper like the one I’m wearing! Like this photo below on my Instagram feed and tag three friends in the caption.

I styled this leopard wrap dress for a night out, with my favorite leather jacket (last worn here) and knee-high boots (last worn here).

Since animal print is pretty bold and loud, I always try and pair with something more subtle and monochromatic. My go-to is always black and leather. How do you style your animal print?

Winter Coats

2019 Fashion, Fashion, Favorite Features, Winter

I am not a winter person, but I do love buying winter coats. Here are my tips if you’re looking for a winter coat. You need a few, and one in each of these categories:

  • Colored Coats
  • Pattern Coats
  • Classic Coats

Do you ever go to a house party and when you go to get your coat before you leave, you have to dig through a huge pile of black coats for your black coat? This is reason enough to invest in a good colored coat.

One of my favorites is my orange ASOS coat, worn here. It’s always easy to spot in a crowd.

The next category is patterned coats, which is super trendy at the moment. The animal print coat has definitely been the hot choice this season. Tweed is one of my personal favorite coat patterns, like this one.

The last category is the classic black, grey, navy or camel coat. These are all solid choices. This coat is worth investing in because it will be the coat you wear the most.

This year, I finally upgraded my old black coat for this one from Zara, which is also available in gray. I love the classic shape and deep pockets. I personally also love its masculine lines. This is my go-to coat for the office and any professional event. I also have a black Patagonia coat, last worn here, that is all practical and is my go-to coat for running errands on the weekend or when it’s just too cold to look cute.

Whatever your style, these are the three types of coats you need to stay warm this winter.

Sweater Weather

2019 Fashion, Autumn, Fashion, Winter

A small perk to being short is that I can get away with so much when it comes to the lengths of appropriateness. This sweater would probably be too short for most women to wear as a sweater dress, but if you’re short enough (like me) you can get away with it.

And the best part is that this sweater is on sale! I paired it with over-the-knee boots so it feels less scandalous.
